Queen of Katwe- My review

Let me start out by saying, I am so glad this movie was made. It isn’t a Black movie or a girl’s movie. It is simply a great movie that in my opinion, everyone should see. I got so much inspiration from it. I took my 2 youngest sons to see it with me. They are homeschooled, so there were no other children in the audience. I was the only one that noticed that. I figured that watching movies like this would not only spark them to start playing chess again. But would inspire them to keep trying to go after their passions whatever they may be. I also give them writing assignments after watching certain movies to make sure they paid attention. No problem there. Queen of Katwe had them captivated from the very beginning. The entire cast was amazing! The beautiful young actress, Madina Nalwanga did a magnificent job playing the lead character, Phiona. I instantly fell in love with all of the children and was trying to figure a way to take my sons to Uganda to play chess. Yeah, good movies do that to me. David Oyelowo is heart-warming as the chess coach who discovers that the shy girl who wanders into his class one day, might actually be a chess prodigy. Lupita N’yongo shines as the very strong and determined mother to Phiona, Brian, Night and Richard. You should know by now that I don’t tell parts of the movie because I hate when you read a review and they basically give you an entire synopsis on the movie. I will say this. GO SEE THIS MOVIE! Take your children to see this movie. Take your parents, take your friends, team mates, co-workers, whoever. Just take them! I am so glad that Disney brought this wonderful story to the big screen.

Queen of Katwe is rated PG and has a running time of 2hours and 4minutes
