The Giver (Review)

When I saw the trailer for The Giver, I was instantly drawn to it. I wasn’t sure why, and I didn’t see it when it was in theaters. Skip ahead some months and I saw that it had been released on DVD. I waited until I had a quiet moment, and finally watched it. I almost turned it off because one scene reminded me so much of Divergent. I decided to keep watching and I am glad I did. This is a very touching movie. It has a lot of moments that really made me think. In this supposedly utopian society, where everyone is equal and nothing bad ever happens, you discover that the ideas of “right and wrong”, “good and bad” have been twisted a bit. It reminds me of our present day in a lot of ways. Anyway, I really enjoyed the character played by Jeff Bridges. And also the character, Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites. I cared about these characters. I became attached to them as I became drawn into their world. I won’t tell you much about the movie or the other characters, but I will tell you that it has some imagery that younger children would find disturbing and if you saw Divergent, you will see some similarities. The movie also stars, Meryl Streep

All in all, I would say, check it out. It’s interesting and I didn’t feel like I wasted 97 minutes. Check out the trailer, rent the movie and let me know what you thought of it.
